Water Damage
Left unattended, even a small amount of water can do significant damage, and most disasters that lead to water damage involve anywhere from dozens of gallons of water to ginormous amounts.
Water flows to the lowest point, seeping into different parts of the house and belongings along the way. At times, the water seems to travel upwards as certain materials (such as sheetrock) absorb the water like sponges.
Water droplets may also travel through the air, ending up in the air vents. Even when the HVAC system isn’t running, the excess humidity travels through the air vents, sometimes landing in them, sometimes stopping in other rooms, and always setting up the possibility of more damage.
Water can (among other problems):
- Rot, weaken wood, linoleum, textiles,
- Delaminate linoleum, other layered materials
- Swell/distort structural frames, doors, windows
- Break apart grout between tiles
- Stain marble, ceramic, other materials
- Leach dyes from carpet, furniture
- Rust metal
- Destroy ceilings, drywall, insulation, paint
- Rot wiring or its insulation
- Short out wiring
- Damage electronics
- Make documents or photographs illegible, stuck to other materials
We have the training and equipment to remediate water damage. You can see examples of stunning transformations on our website.
Microbial Growth
After 24 to 48 hours of exposure to water, microbial growth (often mold) starts developing.
Mold:
- Develops from spores too small to see without a microscope
- Produces spores that travel throughout the house
- Eats almost everything
- Has a musty odor
Mold spores are always present, even in what look the most un-hospitable conditions such as deserts, icebergs, and outer space. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) warns consumers not to trust vendors who claim they can get rid of all mold or all microbial growth.
At SERVPRO of Denver North, we tell our clients we remediate or mitigate mold damage, including:
- Remove visible mold colonies
- Extract excess water to reduce chances that mold returns
- Clean and disinfect the entire home
- Products and techniques meet EPA standards
- Attend to your safety and our employees’ safety
- Eliminate odors
